Our Journey: From Workshop Wonders to Field Service Excellence

My journey in the world of appliance maintenance began at a young age. Nicknamed “Doug the Plug” at just eight years old, I started in my parents’ workshop, learning the fundamentals by checking fuses on refurbished appliances. This early experience ignited a lifelong passion for appliance repair. After leaving school at 16, I took on an apprenticeship at my family’s workshop, honing my skills through hands-on work with a range of appliances. Starting with vacuum cleaners, where I earned the moniker “Dyson Doctor,” I then advanced to mastering repairs for tumble dryers, washing machines, and cookers. My progression in the field eventually led me to the role of a field service engineer, visiting clients’ homes to perform repairs. These experiences not only strengthened my technical skills but also developed my ability to provide a personalised and effective service to clients.

Transition and Growth

In 2016, I relocated from Chelmsford to Colchester and took on a new role at Knowhow (Curry’s), where I expanded my expertise in refrigeration repairs. After 4.5 years, I founded East Coast Appliances in April 2020. Since then, the business has grown significantly, earning a reputation for reliable, reasonably priced service and establishing strong relationships with local landlords, letting agents, and a loyal customer base among the general public.

Additionally, we have a vulnerable consumer policy in place to ensure that all our customers feel safe and supported.
